Billboards are a great way to express a great declaration of love for that special person in your life. Whether that’s a romantic partner, a friend, or even a family member, billboards have been used to celebrate Valentine’s Day, anniversaries, or even propose.
With Valentine’s Day coming up just next week, it’s the perfect time to take a look at some of our favorite romance-themed billboards and why they work so effectively.
The billboard below celebrated the 50th anniversary of a couple near Houston, Texas.
It’s simple, sweet, and classy with minimal elements (and it’s just a really cute sentiment).
Compared to designing an advertisement for a product or service, romantic billboards are far less complicated. Since you’re not trying to catch the attention of everyone driving by to sell them something—but rather one particular person—you should create something catered to them.
Not every romantic billboard is done in good faith, though. American businessman Charles Phillips found himself the center of a billboard campaign that exposed his extramarital affair with a mistress named YaVaughnie Wilkins.
According to CBS News, Wilkins allegedly became angry with Phillips when he decided to end their 8 ½ year affair to focus more on his wife.
Wilkins decided to buy billboard space in San Francisco, Atlanta and New York. A large picture of them can be seen on the billboard, in addition to a website URL that featured even more scandalous evidence. In total, the campaign was said to cost around $250,000.
