OOH During the Holiday Season

The holiday season is in full swing, marking a highly competitive and lucrative time for brands choosing their advertising channels.

More and more brands are turning to out-of-home (OOH) advertising for their holiday needs, especially since it’s less crowded than the chaos on digital platforms.

Digital advertising during the holidays often results in unimpressed consumers and low click-through rates (CTR) as countless brands fight to get their messages across. OOH allows for bold, hard-to-miss statements that entire populations, local and passing, can see.

Billboards, bulletins, and other OOH guarantee a substantial number of views, but the holiday season comes with its own hurdles. Here are two vital principles for a successful campaign.

1

When to Begin Advertising During the Holidays

This can seem tricky, but there is one correct answer:

It’s the month leading up to Black Friday, one of the most profitable days for brands.

$41B+U.S. consumers spent more than $41 billion in online shopping alone from Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday in 2024.

According to consumer research, anything before November is too soon. Launching the bulk of your OOH in early November primes viewers for Black Friday sales, right when many are waiting to start their holiday shopping.

2

Create a Sense of Urgency

The holidays can be stressful, with swirling sales and the search for the perfect gift. Albeit a tad mischievous, creating a sense of urgency can result in massive success. Nobody wants to miss a great sale on the perfect item due to hesitancy.

OOH can create scarcity through design elements like:

  • Countdown timers
  • Highlighting a limited quantity of items
  • Phrases that push consumers to act before time is up
Urgency and scarcity let OOH messages gain immense power in driving action, especially when people are scrambling to find the perfect gift!
Start early, before the days of celebration, and combine it with urgency, and any campaign is set for success.

Time to Wrap It Up! (Pun Intended)

It’s time to break away from the digital sphere and return to the physical world. With digital fatigue at an all-time high, OOH is the way to reach countless potential customers. Happy holidays!
