Modern OOH Advertising

Out of home (OOH) advertising has gone through many forms and changes throughout the years to become what it is today. Ever since it originated, this advertising style has been a successful tool for businesses to promote their message to a large audience. OOH advertising has changed a lot over the years, however, and we’re going to show you a bit of how it began, and what it looks like now!

A Brief History of OOH Advertising

OOH (out of home) advertising has been around for hundreds of years. In America, billboards rose in popularity beginning with circus poster advertisements, and by the 1900s a standard for size and structure of these ads was established. One of the most famous spots for OOH advertising, Times Square, has been a major destination for advertising for over 100 years.

Since the onset of these types of ads, many formats of out of home advertising have been introduced, including digital advertisements—such as digital bulletins, posters, and kiosks. Digital billboards were first introduced in 2005, and since then they have become a popular choice for advertisers to promote their messages without worrying about production or installation.

What Trends Are Happening in OOH Now?

Today, digital formats are an increasingly popular method of OOH advertising. As mentioned above digital versions of billboards and posters have lots of benefits that entice potential advertisers, such as the fact that there are free of production time and install costs. Additionally, advertisers enjoy the freedom that digital ads bring—if they want to make a change to their creative, putting up a new ad is super simple (and there’s no need to reprint!).

Modern advertising is becoming increasingly more accessible as well—with so many different formats available at so many price points, there truly is something for everyone. Whether you want to run a campaign displayed in a massive wallscape on the side of a building, or a small advertisement on a gas station screen, there is something out there that can perfectly suit your needs.
